How to make Pomegranate Molasses at home? Step by Step Recipe

Pomegranate molasses is a delightful addition to many dishes, adding a tangy sweetness that enhances both savory and sweet recipes. Here’s a unique and delicious recipe for homemade pomegranate molasses:

Required Ingredients for Molasses:

  • 4 cups fresh pomegranate juice (about 4 large pomegranates)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • And 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice

Making Instructions:

  • Firstly, Begin by extracting the juice from the pomegranates. Cut the pomegranates in half and juice them using a citrus juicer or a handheld juicer. You can also use store-bought pomegranate juice if fresh pomegranates are not available.

  • Then Pour the fresh pomegranate juice into a large saucepan and bring it to a gentle boil over medium heat. Allow the juice to simmer uncovered for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Once the juice has reduced slightly, add the granulated sugar and freshly squeezed lemon juice to the saucepan. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.

  • Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer gently for about 60-70 minutes, or until it has thickened to a syrupy consistency. And stir occasionally to prevent the mixture from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
  • As the mixture thickens, it will begin to coat the back of a spoon. You can also test the consistency by dipping a spoon into the molasses and observing how it drips off. It should have a slow, syrupy flow.
  • Once the molasses has reached the desired consistency, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly.
  • Transfer the pomegranate molasses to a sterilized glass jar or bottle and allow it to cool completely before sealing.
