Mount Everest, often dubbed the “roof of the world,” stands as the planet’s loftiest mountain, soaring over 29,029 feet (8,848.86 meters) above sea level. Despite falling short in altitude compared to Everest, Chimborazo’s proximity to the Equator, where the Earth bulges, places it significantly farther above the planet’s center. The disparity is striking, with Chimborazo towering nearly 4,000 miles (around 6,400 kilometers) above Earth’s core.

Originating from the ocean floor, Mauna Kea commands attention for its sheer vertical prominence. However, when measured from sea level, its elevation reaches a more modest 13,800 feet (roughly 4,200 meters).
