Rajma (Kidney Beans) is very beautiful and yummy recipe, enjoyed by every Nepali people in their weddings or daily life. It is also one of my favorite dish which i enjoy and often make this dish.
There are several preparation methods for Kidney beans and this recipe in the blog is inspired by the ones they serve in the Nepali weddings. Here is the Ingredients and Preparation Recipe:
Ingredients | Rajma (Kidney Beans)
- Around 3 cups of Rajma
- 1 Cinnamon Leaf
- A tablespoon of Ginger-Garlic Paste
- A tablespoon of Cumin-Coriander Powder
- 1 tablespoon of Meat Masala
- 1 tablespoon of Fenugreek Seeds
- 3 to 4 cloves
- 1 tablespoon of Dill Seeds
- 1 tablespoon of Cumin Seeds
- 1 tablespoon of Turmeric Powder
- Salt (according to taste)
- 1 medium sized, finely chopped Onion
- 1 or 2 Serrano Pepper (adjust according to your spice level)
- 3 medium sized, finely chopped Tomatoes
- 2 table spoons of Oil
Preparation Method
- Soak Rajma (Kidney Beans) overnight. It needs a thorough washing tomorrow.
- Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add cinnamon leaf, cloves, Methi (Fenugreek), Souf (dill) and cumin seeds. Fry until brownish black.
- Add prepared pepper and onion. Fry until golden brown.
- Add Rajma, salt and turmeric powder. Cover and cook for 10 minutes. Make sure to stir occasionally.
- Add tomatoes, meat masala, cumin-coriander powder, and ginger-garlic paste. Stir and cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Add 3 cups of water and close the pressure cooker lid then, cook until it whistles 4 to 5 times.
- Open the lid, stir and serve it with rice. Yummy!!
