I have a memorable memories about the ornage chicken. As i still know the exact taste of this chicken dish, which is brought from Panda Express. Actually i am a huge fan of this sweet, sticky and crunchy and hot chicken. Then i wanted to make it as same as that at my home. Then i read the whole recipe of Chef Andy Kao from Panda Express. And i did some changes to make this for more tasty and based on my taste.
Let’s try to make the best Orance Chicken at home.
Required ingredeints for the best Orange Chicken.
- 2 lbs boneless, Skinless chicken thigh or breast
- 1 cup of cornstarch
- 2 eggs
- Vegetable or or canola oil
Ingredients for making the Sauce
- Orange Juice (Fresh is Preferable) 1 Cup
- Orange Zest 1
- 1/2 Cup of say sauce
- 1/2 cup of brown sugar
- 1/4 cup of rice Vinegar
- Cornstarch 2 tbsp
- Sesame oil 2 tbsp
- Garlic, Ginger Paste (2+2 tbsp)
- CHili Paste (Huey Fong’s sambal Oelek)
- Musrooms (Optional)
- Red pepper flakes (Optional)
- Green Onions, Sliced
- Seasame Seeds

Step by Step Homemade Guide to make the perfect Orange Chicken
First prepare the Sauce for Orange CHicken:
In a medium bowl combine the fresh orange juice, adding with orange zest, soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar ans sesame oil. Stir and mix it will.
In any small bowl, pour the vegetable oil over medium heat, then add then add the ginger, garlic paste until it turned to the golden brown color. Also add some chili paste and red pepper flakes.
Let’s pour the orange juce mixture into that bowl and simmer for 2-3 minutes and add cornstarch too. Now frequently stir to make the perfect thickness of the sauce. It takes another 3-5 minutes.
Prepare the Chicken
Coat the chicken: First the bonelesss, skinless chicken should be coated with the beaten eggs and fully covered with cornstarch.
Fry the Chicken: In a deep skillet, fry the chicken over medium-high heat with the oil and fry it until the chicken turned into golden brown and cryispy. It takes around 4-5 minutes for being the perfect crispyness. After fried, bring out and remove the excess oil.
Fry the Shiitake mushrooms(Optional): After removing the chicken, clean the skillet and add some natural oil and cook the mushrooms with little salt fro 4-5 minutes. When the mushrooms turn into light golden brown, quickly remove it from the pan and keep it in another bowl. Remember that this mushroom is optional. You may not using this if you want.
Mix the Chicken and Sauce
Now it’s time to mix the fried chicken and sauce. In a skillet toss to coat the chicken evenly with the sauce and cook it for more 2-3 minutes. In this time, the sauce became more thick and the sauce will also absorb by the chicken.
After 2-3 minutes, off the heat and garnish with some sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Now you can enjoy this delicious orange chicken with the steamed rice or noodles.
